Mechanically engrave serial numbers for powder coating

Total Industrial Engraving can mechanically engrave serial numbers for powder coating on mild steel panels. We engraved the steel plate below to 1.5mm deep, so that it can be powder coated after engraving. We do this to ensure that the serial number is still clear on the part once in situ.

Why mechanically engrave serial numbers for powder coating?

Recently we have engraved different parts for customers who required a depth that cannot be achieved by laser engraving. This is to allow for the parts to be painted afterwards. We have found that although we often laser engrave post powder coated parts and then infill with paint, it is not as permanent as this solution. This is because over time the paint that fills the text may start to come away. This can cause the steel underneath to begin to rust. This solution also makes it difficult for people to remove or amend your serial numbers and other important data. We can engrave large parts, easily up to 2000mm x 750mm in this way prior to powder coating. Once engraved and powder coated the marking is still clearly visible and cannot be removed like a serial plate could.

Costs

We price all of our jobs on an individual basis as we find that very rarely are two jobs the same.

Various factors go into pricing jobs of this nature, including:

  • Size of the pieces
  • Quantity
  • Depth of engraving, depending on finish used. For example electro-plating, anodising, powder coating.
  • Amount of information required on the plates
  • Language

In some cases we are able to engrave pieces after they have been folded, so please do not hesitate to ask us for a price even if serial numbering in this way has been an afterthought.
